ISLAMABAD:

Senate President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani has refused to preside over the chamber’s meetings until his order to produce jailed PTI legislator Ejaz Chaudhary is carried out.

On January 13, Gillani issued a production order for Chaudhry, who has been imprisoned for 18 months, so that he could attend the Senate session scheduled for January 14.

However, the legislator was not produced at the house by the authorities of Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail in violation of the production order, triggering a protest from PTI senators.

Speaking in the House, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar later suggested that the matter should be taken up in the House Advisory Committee and the Negotiation Committee.

According to sources, the Senate president has decided not to preside over the chamber in protest against non-compliance with his order.

Express News reported that Gillani was present in his chamber of Parliament on Friday but did not preside over the proceedings of the house and the deputy president presided over the chamber.

Sources said Gillani, who belongs to the PPP, has made it clear that she will return to the house only when her orders are implemented and Senator Ejaz Chaudhary appears in the house.
