Milo Ventimiglia has no problem if his daughter grows up supporting Rory Gilmore’s first love.
He Gilmore Girls The student, who played Jess Mariano, said PEOPLE that it would be perfectly fine if his 1-year-old daughter, Ke’ala, took Dean’s (Jared Padalecki) side in the long-running fan debate over which Rory’s best match is.
“It would be really cool if my daughter finally saw the show and she was the dean of the team,” Ventimiglia said. “I get it because I’m Team Jared, so I get it.”
The actor’s calm stance came as fans continue to debate Rory’s romantic history more than two decades after the series first aired.
Dean was Rory’s first boyfriend, although their relationship ended publicly and painfully.
Jess followed him, bringing her own complications before leaving Stars Hollow before graduation.
Rory later dated Logan (Matt Czuchry) during her years at Yale and ultimately rejected his proposal in Season 7 before reconnecting in the 2016 revival.
Ventimiglia praised his fellow actors, noting that despite their characters’ differences, Padalecki and Czuchry are “the best” off-screen.
“They couldn’t be more charming as human beings,” he said. “It’s nice that more than 20 years later we can still talk about this show we were growing up on and come together as grown men just to acknowledge it and still have words of love for each other.”
His comment comes less than a year after Padalecki revealed he was actually Team Jess.
However, Czuchry admitted that his own choice has changed over time depending on Rory’s development.
