- Microsoft has not committed to any contribution still
- Github says that Oss is a crucial infrastructure, just like roads
The developer platform owned by Microsoft Github urges the European Union to establish a public fondado public technology fund to admit the maintenance of open source software (OSS).
The director of developers of Github, Felix Reda, explained in a blog post that the open source continues to be insufficient and that the public sector could be involved to help financially support development.

The survey showed that one in three open source software maintainers is not paid, and another of every three cannot make a living of their open source work.
As such, Github proposes that the EU adds 350 million euros to its budget to finance the maintenance of open source software. National governments and industries should also contribute to financing, CREE GITHUB, although the company owned by Microsoft has not offered any contribution itself.
Github identified five key investment areas, which include: identification of criticisms of EU OSS; invest in OSS maintenance; OSS security improvement financing; Improvement of project improvements; and strengthen the general OSS ecosystem.
By supporting Github’s argument, Mercedes-Benz software director Magnus Östberg wrote: “Without sustainable financing and support, it is completely predictable that open source software projects will not receive appropriate diligence and scrutiny for the software of said criticism.”
