Glacier collapse damages houses, hotels in Naran

Balakot:

Several houses and hotels have been damaged due to the collapse of a glacier in Lake Saiful Mlook Road in Naran, a popular tourist destination in the Kaghan Valley. Currently, the region is buried less than three to four feet of snow, which makes access almost impossible.

Due to the glaciers that block the Kaghan highway, access to the vehicle to Naran has become impossible. In addition, with climate predictions and snowy snowfall, even reaching Naran on foot is a challenge, which makes it difficult to evaluate the total scope of the damage.

According to the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), the initial reports indicate that six houses, three hotels and two turbines have been affected by the collapse of the glacier. However, the exact scope of the damage can only be determined once access is restored. Earlier this year, concerns about climate change in the Kaghan Valley were raised due to prolonged dry climate.

However, the recent snowfall in March has relieved these concerns.

After multiple collapses of glaciers in Naran and its surrounding valleys, previously dry springs have begun to flow again.
