Google can be about to replace its default option of traditional search results with its AI mode. At least that is what Google’s main product manager, Logan Kilpatrick, hinted when he responded to the suggestion in X.
The AI mode combines Google’s AI Gemini with a real -time search for direct conversation responses instead of the family link list. AI mode is a tab on Google Search and has just received a homemade home page at Google.com/ai, which contributes to the credibility of Kilpatrick’s comments.
The change could have enormous consequences on how people find online information and the websites that depend on Google to send them traffic. The editors have already reported decreases due to the general views of Google AI, which often answer user questions directly without requiring them to click on another site. If AI mode becomes the predetermined value, those effects can only grow.
Google’s search vice president, Robby Stein, soon tried to calm those worried about such change. In his own publication X, he wrote that “I would not read too much on this. We are focusing on facilitating access to the AI mode for those who want it.”
Even so, that becomes vague enough to cover any movement to change the default value. It could be said that writing is already on the wall (from the home page). Google has been increasing exposure to its AI services for months. The characteristics are filtered through Google Labs, but since then, the descriptions of AI and the AI mode have been globalized, and Google has informed dozens of millions of monthly active users in the ai mode this summer. The way Google treats AI mode is the next big thing, not just a parallel project.
AI mode for all
If AI mode becomes the default value, it is possible that it does not take into account many changes at the beginning. You will simply see the response synthesized as a much larger part of the page, with bonds relegated to a Dies panel. The long -term response is more complicated because it is also a massive change in how information moves through the web under the surface.
The traditional search for Google is the basis for websites to be discovered. Links for everything, from media and recipe blogs to independent filmmakers and government services, depend on being visible in the search for Google, how they provide money to those websites. Research has shown that IA descriptions have harmed traffic on websites.
Google is the main Internet door for billions of people. If they change the fuer, you really can’t go to another place. Of course, there are alternatives between search engines, but there is a reason why the verb to search for something online is Google and no Bing.
For now, you can meet the classic search, but that might not be an option forever. AI mode is approaching, and Google will try to make it the basis of how people look for things online. How good it will be able to require a little more, maybe I ask Duckduckgo first.
