Ransomware continues to cause interruption between industries, with incidents reported in medical care, retail sale, education, manufacturing and government.
Financial losses can exceed millions of dollars by case, and recovery often takes time that organizations cannot pay.
Now, Google executives have argued that the long approach dates back to trusting antivirus measures is no longer enough to stop these threats.
Microsoft products low scrutiny
Google’s announcement states that ransomware remains a persistent threat to Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
Although the native archives of the Google work space, such as documents and leaves, have not been affected by ransomware, formats such as PDF and office documents remain vulnerable.
The company has positioned its new protection tools in response to this continuous risk, since Google Drive for desktop now includes artificial intelligence designed to detect ransomware activity before it can damage the cloud stored data.
Instead of trying to block each malicious program before activation, the system seeks suspicious encryption attempts and stops synchronization immediately.
When cutting the synchronization, Google says that it can prevent ransomware from extending through the archives of an organization.
Then, users are presented options to restore their data to a safe state without depending on external tools.
For administrators, alerts are issued through the administration console, offering visibility in suspicious activities.
IT equipment can review the records, decide whether to allow restoration and maintain the supervision of the affected accounts.
The system works on Windows and Macos devices, with detection models trained in millions of samples.
Google states that continuous updates of threat intelligence services such as Virustotal help refine detection and adapt to new attack techniques.
The announcement emphasizes that ransomware is not just a problem but interrupts the main commercial operations.
The approach based on Google’s AI aims to provide a security network after an intrusion has occurred, while traditional methods focus only on prevention.
In theory, combining antivirus defenses with new cloud interventions could reduce damage, although it is still uncertain how well these systems will remain against increasingly complex attacks.
While Google presents its tool as an advance, no unique technology guarantees complete protection.
Organizations still depend on layer security practices, such as malware elimination, safe authentication and password administrators to protect against intrusions.
