- Support for older nest thermostats is finishing this year
- You can get a great discount on a new model.
- There are no new nest thermostats that go on sale in Europe
There are a couple of news pieces from Google Nest thermostat to bring you this weekend: the support is ending for older first and second generation models, while Google will stop selling the thermostat in the EU completely.
First, the end of support for the first -generation nest thermostat (launched in 2011), and the second generation nest thermostat (launched in 2012). Google says (through 9to5google) that there will be no more software updates issued for these devices, starting on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
At that time, thermostats can no longer control from your phone, and the start/away modes will also stop working. However, you can still adjust modes, schedules, temperatures and configurations in real devices.
To help soften the coup, Google offers some update discounts in the last fourth generation nest thermostat for those who have older models: if it is in the US. UU., You can get $ 130 discount, which is almost half of the price.
Not in Europe
The second news here is that there will be no more thermostats of new nests sold in Europe in the future. The third generation model and the Nest thermostat, which was launched in 2015 and 2017, respectively, will be everything you can obtain now.
“Heating systems in Europe are unique and have a variety of hardware and software requirements that make it difficult to build for the diverse set of houses,” says Google statement.
That means that the new brilliant model, launched last year and described as a sports “an impressive design infused with AI” in our review of the 4th Gen Nest thermostat, will not be available in Europe.
It is not surprising that consumers are careful to invest in intelligent domestic technology with discontinued devices and incompatible standards to deal with, even the largest business companies. It is an area where Google and others can do it much better.
