- Google has stopped selling the chromecast with Google TV
- The Gadget made its debut in September 2020
- An update is available in the shape of the Google TV streamer
Four and a half years after debuting, the Chromecast with Google TV is no longer being sold by Google, joining products such as Google Daydream and the Nexus Q (remember that?) In the Hardware section of the Google cemetery.
The disappearance of the device of the official Google store was observed by 9to5google and others, with the 4K and HD versions not already available. The HD model was launched in 2022, two years after the original.
While it is possible that one can still hunt through third -party resellers, the future is largely the Google TV streamer presented in August 2024. That is now the predetermined Google TV device, yours for $ 99 / £ 99 / AU $ 159.
However, as a long time of chromecast with Google TV (4K Edition), there is no way to change the old device for the new at this time. In fact, I will probably keep my current transmission dongle until I stop working, which could still happen several years of rest at this time.
Which makes Chromecast with Google TV special
Chromecast with Google TV was a significant update to traditional chromecasts when it made its debut. Before arriving, Chromecasting was quite fast and easy, but everything had to control himself on a portable phone, tablet or computer.
With the chromecast with Google TV, it has a small thick remote control, even more direct to use, with its touch and physical buttons and displacement pad. There is also storage on board and a software interface, which makes it a truly independent device.
Google TV streamer is not bulky, but needs a flat surface to sit, while my chromecast with Google TV simply leaves an HDMI port. The new gadget is also more expensive, packing more storage than I will ever use.
Both old and new transmission devices use Google TV, one of the best and most versatile TV software platforms, so there is no update there. In an ideal world, I would love a chromecast with Google TV, 2025 edition (if someone from Google is reading), but my current transmission device continues to do a good job.
