- Users report multiple problems with Google Smart Home Gadgets
- The commands do not work or respond slowly
- Most Google Home and Nest devices have not had updates for years
Have you registered your Google Home devices lately? It seems that Google Home and Google Nest devices are becoming less reliable and more wrong, and many users are venting their frustrations on Google apparently abandoning the ecosystem.
A long Reddit thread details a long list of problems, as highlighted by an article on Android Authority, an article that in itself has dozens of comments lamenting how unreliable the domestic devices of Google Smart have become.
The problems listed include commands that do not work, automation and routines that break, audio and video transmissions are not available, and the devices disconnect, do not talk to each other or are very slow to answer, it is not a beautiful image.
The lament of a user that “I can only make it work without some type of error of 25% of the time these days” is typical, and many of the complaints of the people who record that they are planning to change to different products in the absence of any Google response.
Where are the new devices?

There are not many signs of life of the Google Home and Google Nest ecosystem at this time. The Nest Protect smoke alarm was suspended in March, and we have not had a new Nest Security Chamber since 2021. For the last Smart Speaker Nest or the smart screen launch, it must return further, until 2020.
We obtained a new nest thermostat last August, but only made available in the United States, and the oldest models are no longer sold in Europe. Add the growing number of errors that are reported, and it is understandable that users are upset.
Google has a history of interested in something and then abandoning it, from Chromecast devices to Google Stadia, which will obviously leave people to invest their time and money in what Google offers in the future.
Google’s last favorite toy is, of course, Gemini AI, and we may see new Smart Home devices with Gemini on board in the future. However, given the little attention that Google has recently lent to the hardware it already has in this category, there would be no guarantee that no new device is compatible in the long term.
