- 200 workers from the Google Global Business Unit are becoming redundant
- It is the third round of layoffs of the company in 2025 so far
- Google previously alluded to having less capes of personnel
Google has revealed another personnel reduction that affects around 200 workers in its global business unit (through PakGazette).
The workers come from a department responsible for sales and associations, with the dismissals part of a broader cost reduction movement with Google changing their focus on data centers and AI, a true sign of the times.
In a statement, Google said the changes “would boost greater collaboration and expand our ability to quickly and effectively serve our clients.”
Google dismisses even more workers
It is the last of a series of employment cuts on Google, after the company recently fired several hundred workers in their Pixels and Android departments, with its human resources department also affected in early February 2025.
Even so, that is not a patch in the generalized layoffs of Google in January 2023, when 12,000 workers were sent home, approximately 6% of their global workforce.
As of December 2024, Google had just over 183,000 workers, so, although the reduction of 200 workers of the global business unit is not significant in terms of percentage, it is still an unpleasant decision for all those affected.
Google is not the only company that makes minor regular adjustments. Recently, Meta fired around 100 employees in their reality laboratories, and about 3,600 (5%) considerable in early February, when CEO Mark Zuckerberg told workers to prepare for an “intense year.”
Microsoft has made two minor adjustments in this calendar year (through layoffs. FYI), while Amazon and Apple have also made some reviews.
When we approached Google for a comment the last time he said goodbye to the workers, a company spokesman told us: “Our teams have continued to make changes to operate more efficiently, eliminate layers and make sure they are configured for long -term success.”
