- Google Photos celebrates its tenth birthday
- The new editing tools arrive at Android and iOS
- Users can also share photos through the QR code
Google Photos has now been with us for 10 years, and Google is marking the occasion when redesign the photo editor of the application and add some of the tricks that was previously exclusive to the best pixels phones.
The editor’s renewal collects some key features while adding new ones: Choose editing a photo and will see a series of suggested improvements. Touch someone or something in an image, and there are still more suggestions, such as the option to move the selection in another place of the image, or blur the background behind it.
The tools that have previously been exclusive to the Google Pixel 9 series will now be available to all. They include an automatic frame to obtain suggested crops for a shot, and reinvent, which functions as a mini ai image generator to allow you to introduce new elements or edit existing ones with text indications.
Other examples provided by Google include obtaining suggestions on how to improve a particular area of a photo and change the appearance of the sky using the reimagine tool, so it can turn a cloudy day into a sunny one, if you wish. The redesigned editor arrives at Android next month, with iOS after “later this year.”
Easy sharing
Far from the redesigned editor, Google Photos applications are also making it easier to share photos with other people. Now you can do it using a QR code, so you can pass the code to other people or publish it publicly for anyone to use.
Google has also used the occasion to share some tips and tricks to use its photos. These are not new, but you may not have known it: as the way you can play Places in it Collections Tab to see your photos spread over the locations and concentrate on images and videos of private places.
Another feature highlighted by Google is the way you can use natural language in searches, whether “I in a blue shirt” or “on the beach”, and Google’s AI will find what you are looking for. Only the Look for Button down in the lower right corner, then place your consultation at the top.
According to Google, since its launch 10 years ago, more than 9 billion photos and videos have been stored in the service, and more than 1.5 billion people use it monthly, which does 210 editions each month between them. Personally, however, I think it is still a shame that Google took away unlimited storage for pixels.
