- Google says that new nest devices are in process
- We can expect gadgets “in the coming months and years”
- Two older pieces of hardware have been suspended
If I had the impression that Google’s approach on pixels and AI models meant that the company was ignoring its smart nest kit, think again: Google says that “the most useful domestic devices” are on their way “in the coming months and years.”
That promise of future hardware was made in a blog post (through 9to5google) that also announced that the nest smoke alarm and the carbon monoxide detector, and the intelligent nest x yale lock block, were being discontinued.
Perhaps it is not surprising that it is the end of the line for those two pieces of hardware, which have not been updated in several years, but it seems that Google is still committed to intelligent domestic devices and with the Nest brand in general.
The blog publication indicates to the Google TV transmitter and the 4th Nest Genh thermostat (both launched last August) as evidence that he is still interested in home hardware, even if there have not been a large number of launches in recent times.
New nests
In addition to the transmission box and the smart thermostat, the current range of Nest devices covers security cameras, video bells, smart speakers and smart screens. It seems that at least some of these devices could be updated this year.
We know that Google is busy exchanging the Google assistant for Google Gemini on its devices and its software, so it seems to be a good reason to expel some updated speakers and nest screens also.
Certainly new models should be given: the last new intelligent speaker we had was the Nest Audio, launched in September 2020, while the most recent intelligent exhibition to arrive was the second generation nest, which made its debut in March 2021.
Amazon is busy updating Alexa in his Hardware Smart Home, which could push Google to action, and there are even reports that echo speakers and screens could be renamed as Alexa devices in the near future.
