- The Google search engines market monopoly is helping its AI strategy, says the DOJ
- Its use of artificial intelligence is also compatible with its search engine
- Google plans to appeal once a final failure is broadcast
Google faces an antimonopoly judgment on its alleged misuse of AI products, which could be perceived that strengthens its domain in online search, something that is already under the microscope.
The Department of Justice has proposed to break the Google monopoly on the search market, potentially remodeling the Internet panorama by giving other companies the opportunity to participate in the action.
With the ongoing investigation, it is not clear what consequences Google could face, but it has been suggested that it could be forced to sell their Chrome browser to Pacifiy legislators and resolve antitrust research.
Google’s search monopoly could be driven by AI
The Department of Justice argues that the Google monopoly improves its AI products, which further increases its domain, however, the US agency has suggested that broader and wider and prudent remedies could be necessary due to the growing nature of generative the AI.
The DAJ lawyer, David Dahlquist, explained that Google’s search monopoly helps improve their AI products, but also act as a way of attracting users to the search engine, highlighting the interlaced nature of the company’s products and the complex nature of demand.
Among the outstanding agreements at the trial was Google’s monthly payment to Samsung, which allows the company to pre -install the Gemini AI application on the devices. The payment is equivalent to a “huge sum,” said Dahlquist.
Almost 90% of all online searches use Google (through Statcounter), and Chrome represents about two thirds of all online sessions.
Google’s exclusive agreements to be the predetermined search engine have already been criticized in relation to their monopoly, including its payment of $ 20 billion to Apple only in 2022 (through Bloomberg).
Google has said that its AI products are not related to the search engine box (through PakGazette) and that plans to appeal once a final failure is broadcast.
