Google to restrict cryptographic ads in the EU to companies with a Mica license

The Google search giant will only allow cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets to be announced in the European Union if they have a license under the regulation of cryptographic cryptographic markets (Mica), as of April 23, the company announced on Monday.

Google said advertisers must now obtain a certification from the company and demonstrate that they are registered as a supplier of cryptographic allocation services (CASP) under Mica. The company also requires that advertisers comply with any additional legal obligation of the country.

Mica, which covers the 27 EU member states, marks a change in the mosaics of national licenses regimes that currently govern cryptographic ads in some regions.

For cryptographic platforms that already announce in France, Germany and Finland under local rules, Google has forged a temporary respite. These national licenses will continue to be valid until the middle and late 2025, aligning with the Mica transition period of each country.

The technological giant said the accounts will not be immediately suspended due to breach. Instead, it will issue a warning at least seven days before any compliance action.

Currently, several cryptocurrency exchanges have secured a Mica license, including OKX, Crypto.com, Bitpanda, Borse Stuttgart Digital, Etoro and others.
