- The “News Briefs” will appear on the Google TV page for your
- Will recommend related videos of the “main news”
- Only in the United States, and only being tested with some users
Google is experimenting with summaries and news recommendations with AI that you can see on your Google TV. This seems like a very bad idea.
The function, called News Briefs, was detected by Android Authority on Google support pages. It will use “Gemini models and human evaluation” to provide narrated descriptions of the main news and “related YouTube videos from confidence news sources.”
Until now it is only being tested with selected users, and is only being tested in the United States. And I hope that at the end of the test they will kill him with fire.
The problem with AI news is simple
What happens with AI is that, due to lack of a better description, it is a machine of mass communication. To take a rather harmless example, Apple’s headlines have been a disaster, and their summaries of AI on my iPhone are often hilariously wrong.
Again and again we see very clear evidence that AI cannot be trusted. Sometimes it is fun, as Associated Press is found in the summer of 2024, Gemini will happily tell you that astronauts have played with cats on the moon, but sometimes it is much more serious; The same report indicates that Google’s AI shared the conspiracy theory that Barack Obama is Muslim.
The problem with the AI is that what they tell us is AI … it is not. It is like a very high self -correction, a prediction machine, and when your data is bad, it is often, then it produces bad information with great confidence. And online there is a complete ecosystem based on making bad information and feeding it on social networks such as YouTube.
Given the history of YouTube in the recommendations, NBC News is one of the many organizations that demonstrated a political and religious bias in the content that is recommended to people, for example, that they have presented news recommendations with ia even when we have not Order to see new terrifying sounds.
And in addition to that, I receive many nightmare news that they give me all day, every day on my phone, maybe if my TV is turned on it is to escape, or distract or entertaining. Some people love watching wavy news networks (or news style) all day, but some of us use our television to focus somewhere else.
There are enough bad news in the world at this time. I really hope Google TV can’t add more.
