- The Code in the Google TV HOME application describes the timers and sleep notifications
- Android TV already has a sleep timer, but it’s not great or easy to find
- It is in the early stages, so don’t expect it imminently
If you have ever fallen asleep during a television program just to be awakened by automatic advance or to realize that you have missed a lot of episodes, the idea of a decent sleep timer on Google TV could be quite interesting. Well, there are some good news here: it seems that Google is working exactly that.
The news comes through Android Authority, who does not like to deepen the Beta Code to see what useful information could discover. And this time chains and references to sleep timers are discovered in the Google TV Home application, which is the main interface for Google TV.
What to expect from sleep timers on Google TV
The code in the Google application suggests that the sleep timer will do more than the basic that is currently on Android TV, which does not admit pause and resumption functions. And the code also indicates that there will be timer warnings at different intervals: “x minutes until the TV goes out”, and possibly the ability to cancel the timer asking for a little more time.
That last characteristic is a bit mysterious, because one of the lines of code describes a “Sleep_timer_45_Second_notification_ACTION”. That is a strange choice of time, as Android Authority says, why not do it at a minute?
At the moment, these are only clues instead of real work characteristics, but they are an encouraging sign, however: at this time manufacturers create (or do not create) their own timers, while having the baked function in the central operating system would mean an experience consisting of the entire Google TV platform.
It should also make the feature much easier to find, because where companies offer an Android sleep timer, tend to bury it in the darkest corners of the configuration menu.
