- Gemini for TV is coming to Google TV Streamer, updates rolling out today
- If your device is eligible for the update, you’ll be able to have natural conversations with Gemini to search the streamer’s content.
- Google also shared that you’ll be able to use Gemini to “bring learning to the biggest screen in your home.”
The Google Assistant phase-out is still underway and Gemini is about to reign supreme across all Google products, and next to get Gemini intelligence is Google TV Streamer.
Google announced Monday in a blog post that Gemini for TV will begin rolling out to Google TV Streamer in the coming weeks. The company first revealed its plans to expand Gemini to select TCL devices in September, with the TCL QM9K being the first Google TV model to receive the update.
Now that Gemini is finally coming to Google TV Streamer, users will be able to make more advanced voice requests, and the company shares that “Gemini for TV is not just for entertainment” and offers a host of capabilities.
Gemini for TV will now allow you to use your voice more naturally to access Google TV Streamer content. For example, if you and your partner or friend can’t agree on a movie to stream, you can tell Gemini, “I like dramas, but my wife likes comedies. What movie can we watch together?” and it will give you ideas, but that’s not all.
If one of your favorite TV shows is coming back and you need a recap but want to avoid having to watch an entire season, try asking, “What happened at the end of last season’s ‘Outlander’?” and Gemini will update you. Alternatively, if you don’t remember the name of a popular title but want to check it out, you can use the prompt “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?” to find your next binge watch.
As mentioned, Google’s blog post shares that Gemini for TV goes beyond entertainment and will also have the ability to “bring learning to the biggest screen in your home,” as the company says. You can do this by having Gemini explain certain educational topics to your children by asking, “Explain why volcanoes erupt to my third grader.” It can even guide you through recipes and DIY projects with YouTube videos.
When Gemini for TV arrives on your Google TV Streamer, you’ll be able to take advantage of its new update using the microphone button on your remote control. Additionally, you can check if the update is available on your Google TV Streamer device by going to Settings and ‘Accounts and profiles’. From there, select “Voice Assistant” and you’ll find an option for “Gemini for TV” if your device is eligible for the update.
