Government orders investigation into Zehri attacks

QUETA:

The Balochistan government has ordered a transparent investigation into the tragic Zehri incident, ensuring strict action against those responsible.

Gunmen reportedly launched a daring assault on the main bazaar in Tehsil Zehri, Khuzdar district, on Wednesday morning, setting fire to several government buildings, including a Levies Force station, Nadra and municipal committee offices, and a bank, after taking control of the area.

Authorities reported that approximately 80 militants entered the area around 11 p.m. from the nearby mountains. They stationed armed men around the bazaar and other key locations in the Zehri tehsil headquarters, set up check posts around the bazaar and pickets in the mountains to block any intervention by the security forces.

The militants broke into Levies station, took staff hostage, looted records and set fire to the building, causing damage to the structure, furniture and other items inside.

The gunmen later attacked a branch of a private bank, took staff hostage and looted more than Rs 90 million from the strongroom, bank officials in Quetta said.

Government ministers including Sardar Abdul Rahman Khan, Mir Shoaib Nowsherwani, Dr Ruba Buledi and other assembly members strongly condemned the incident. They affirmed that the government is fully committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring that they face legal consequences.
