LAHORE:
The central president of PTI and former Punjab Prime Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said the government should be blamed when people drowned in floods.
“Common people say that the Government has done nothing for us, that the rulers are incompetent because they did not inform us about the flood in time,” Elahi said on Tuesday while talking to the media after attending a judicial hearing.
He also asked why illegal housing societies were allowed to build on the river bed and why they were not unemployed in time.
He said that a flood like this had never happened before. In addition to the loss of precious lives, he said, the flood also destroyed crops and cattle.
Elahi said he went to the areas affected by the floods of Gujrat, his hometown, and that the goods were being delivered to the areas affected by the floods.
“It is our national duty to help people affected by floods without any discrimination.”
He affirmed that during his term as prime minister between 2002 and 2008 and in 2022 he carried out an unprecedented amount of development in Gujrat.
“Now that these people [PML-N] They have entered power, have submerged Gujrat. Despite being in the government, they are not doing anything, “he added.
Elahi said his government had started working to place sewerage lines in Gujrat, but the PML-N government stopped the financing of the project three years ago.
“They should be asked why the funds have stopped. The failure lies in the current government.”
He said that where people drowned in floods, the rulers must be responsible.
Previously, the Special Court of the FIA heard the case of money laundering and sought arguments of the prosecutor on September 27 by the declaration of acquittal of Elahi. The lawyer of the PTI leader, Amir Saeed Rawn, said that the government is an expert in making false cases, added that the court had canceled the arrest orders for Elahi to its appearance.
