Government to dissolve Imran’s flagship project


Islamabad:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to dissolve the Housing and Development Authority of Naya Pakistan (NAPHDA), an emblematic project of the Government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Reliable sources confirmed that Prime Minister Sharif has decided to finish the authority, a national construction organization responsible for the planning, development, construction and management of real estate projects throughout the country.

In this sense, the contract of Major General (Retd) Amir Asm Khan, the current president of Naphda, has not been renewed.

Meanwhile, Captain (retd) Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has been appointed interim president of the authority. Its appointment will be for a period of three months, according to a notification issued by the establishment division.

According to the notification, the Captain (Retd) IQBAL will have an additional position as an interim president for three months or until a permanent appointment is made.

IQBAL is a BS-20 official of the Administrative Service of Pakistan, and currently serves as general director of the Federal Government’s Housing Housing Authority.

The authority had an annual budget of RS4 billion, and in the last five years, its total budget reached RS2 billion, but its production remained zero, the sources added.

The NAPHDA was established on January 15, 2020. The Pakistan Senate approved the bill of the Pakistan Housing and Development Authority of Naya in 2019.
