Salman Ahmad, a member of the Economic Advisory Council, has stated that the titular government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz has decided that the boom and bust cycle would resist to guarantee sustainable economic growth.
Talk about Geographical news ‘Capital Talk’ of the program, said that the Government was actively carrying out an integral exercise of rights aimed at eliminating redundancy, duplication and inefficiency between federal ministries and departments to reduce taxpayers’ burden and support economic reforms.
He explained that where public funds are spent without delivering benefits, especially in the ministries delegated to the provinces after the amendment 18 or departments with outdated and redundant mandates, the recommendations for the necessary actions are being compiled.
Of the 39 federal ministries that include around 450 departments, the Government is currently reviewing 32 ministries with almost 350 departments. “A line review is being carried out and recommendations are being sent to the federal cabinet for approval,” he added.
Clarifying that ministries are not yet being closed, Ahmed said: “We are not closing ministries for now, but we are analyzing their functions and sending recommendations: this could involve merging departments, close them, transfer them or even take them out of the books.”
When asked if employees would be fired, he emphasized that while the right can lead to difficult decisions, it is necessary. “The people of Pakistan are already carrying a heavy fiscal burden. It is our responsibility to reduce this burden through rights, especially in institutions that are unproductive or where no work is done,” he said.
