Government to restructure district administration


Islamabad:

The Federal Government has decided to review the legal and administrative structure of the District Administration throughout the country, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the preparation of recommendations within a month.

According to a notification of the Cabinet Secretariat, an 18 -members committee has been constituted to review existing laws and propose reforms aimed at improving governance, provision of services, law and order, and the application of local and special laws.

The Federal Law Minister, Azam Nazeer Tarar, will serve as a convener, while the Federal Minister for the establishment, Ahad Chema, has been appointed co-co-co-candid the 18-member committee.

The panel also includes the attorney general, the key federal secretaries, the main secretaries of the four provinces, Azad Cashmira and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as Nabeel Awan, Nasir Mehmood Khosa, Agha Wasif, Pasand Khan Buleidi and Naseem Sadiq.

The Committee has had the task of examining the role of district administration before and after 2001 and the return of powers, comparing the mechanisms for the application of the law and public order, and studying administrative models of other countries.

It is also empowered to propose amendments to existing laws, including the Code of Criminal Procedure, and suggest a new legislation to strengthen district administration. The Cabinet division will provide secretariat support, while the Committee can co -opt additional members if necessary.
