QUETTA:
The Provincial Government of Baluchistan has advised the BNP to limit its protest today to the Shahwani stadium in Quetta, warning that strict legal measures will be taken against any violation of the law, if the supporters of the party march towards the red zone of the provincial capital.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who personally leads the long march of the BNP, promised to reach Quetta on April 6 (Sunday) to protest against the alleged forced disappearances of political workers in Baluchistan and the arrest of the leaders of the Baloch Jakjehti Committee (Byc), including Dr. Mahrang Baloch.
When heading to a press conference before the scheduled protest, Baluchistan government spokesman Shahid Rind, strict legal measures against any violation of the law.
“The Government shows moderation, but any attempt to violate section 144 or provoke disturbances will meet a firm response,” said Rind.
He accused BNP, Mengal and the main leader, Dr. knows, to pronounce “against the State” speeches and confirmed that legal procedures on such comments would begin.
Rind revealed that two rounds of conversations had taken place with BNP leadership, during which they were asked to maintain their protest at the Shahwani stadium. However, the party refused, insisting on marching to the Quetta red zone, which the government has declared outside the limits.
“The BNP-M filed three main demands, including the release of Mahrang Baloch,” he said.
Rind dismissed the speculations about the alleged negotiation of the government with the Byc, stating that no official meeting between the government and Dr. Mahrang Baloch had occurred in jail. “Everyone knows what the Byc is,” he added.
He said that the provincial government is waiting for a detailed verdict of the Superior Court of Baluchistan on the issue of Afghan refugees and continues to consult with political parties to guarantee the law and order.
The march of the BNP, which has gained impulse in several districts, continues despite the repeated warnings of the government and the failed negotiation attempts.
