Gwyneth Paltrow talks about her parents’ ‘interfaith marriage’

Gwyneth Paltrow is grateful for her mixed religious family and her upbringing in such an environment.

On Wednesday, December 25, the actress and Goop The founder reflected on the interfaith marriage of her mother Blythe Danner and her late father Bruce Paltrow and spoke about the struggle to have her loved ones accept it.

“My mother is Christian, my father is Jewish,” Gwyneth said in a video with Noa Tishby to mark the first night of Hanukkah.

“It’s interesting: I grew up in a time in the ’70s when interfaith marriage was still a big thing. So it was very difficult for both of my parents’ parents to marry each other.”

She went on to say: “It was a bit scandalous. Nobody was happy about it.

“They definitely came to terms with it later in life and kind of let all of that go,” Gwyneth added.

Blythe and Bruce married in 1969 and had two children together, Gwyneth and Jake Paltrow.

However, after remaining married for 30 years, Bruce passed away in 2002 after battling throat cancer.

“I felt very lucky because I was able to grow up in two very different worlds and religions,” Gwyneth said.
