Haliey Welch, better known as “Hawk Tuah Girl”, now distances himself from the failed Hawk Memecoin last December, although he previously called a tab fully compatible with fans who was proud to launch.
In a new episode of his Talk Tuah podcast, Welch said he was interrogated by the FBI and handed his phone to the SEC, but was finally “authorized” of irregularities.
“They went through my phone, so they clarified. I was ready to go,” he said. “I wish we knew what we know now.” He also dodged direct responsibility, instead of framing herself as an involuntary pawn: “I have nothing to hide.”
But Welch’s latest comments, stating that he did not understand Crypto and felt “sick” that fans trusted her, contrast with her original announcement in November 2024.
At that time, Welch said she was “excited to be part of the meme culture” and had “learned a lot” while working with launch partners to give life to $ Hawk.
The Token, which was launched in Solana, briefly reached a market limit of $ 491 million before falling below $ 100 million in hours. Welch’s team said the project was legally compatible and backed by a Cayman Foundation, and said its chips would be granted more than three years.
Welch states that user losses are much lower
She continued stating that, although it was estimated that customer losses are as high as $ 1.2 million, the real loss figure is $ 180,000.
However, there are still 10,149 tokens headlines according to Solscan and many of those headlines never sold, so the losses were never made. The $ 180,000 figure does not include those holders.
The commentators in their podcast are not buying the story.
“Do you admit that you didn’t know anything about it, but decided to support it anyway and promote it?” A YouTube comment is read. “You should never have attached to something you didn’t understand,” said another.
Hawk prices have dropped 99% since its December peak, sitting in a small market capitalization of $ 104,000 to Tuesday morning.
