LAHORE:
PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique revealed that he decided to avoid joining his party’s government, saying he believed the country was veering off course.
Speaking at an event to mark the 52nd death anniversary of his father Khawaja Muhammad Rafiq, the PML-N leader said that while he was still a member of the party, he could not join hands in the government.
“How long will we continue to complain in the halls? We have to speak. Who will? That is precisely why I am not part of the government. My colleagues know this well. I am fully within my party, but I cannot remain silent when there are problems “I must speak.”
He further warned that Pakistan cannot progress through “remote controlled democracy”.
He lamented the growing governance problems, particularly in Azad Kashmir, where “groups form and the government surrenders.” He wondered why a person disconnected from Kashmir politics was being placed in a critical position despite warnings.
“The hearts of Kashmiris beat with Pakistan, so why appoint someone there who has no connection with Kashmir politics? We advise against it, but who listens to advice?”
Commenting on speculation that the US might come to rescue jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, Saad Rafique said the new US administration has no interest in Imran. “Their approach aligns with the usual imperialist objectives: Pakistan’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.”
“We do not realize our strength, but our enemies do. When the noose tightens around you, how can you remain silent? We must find a way to move forward.”
He also revealed that he had discussed some issues with “some important figures”, although he preferred not to name them, adding that the negotiations should be successful.
