If you are looking to get away from Windows, there are many alternative operating systems to consider, from the many Linux distributions offered to macOS (if you are open to change Apple).
One of the most intriguing options is reacts, which aims to be Windows, but without Microsoft, more specifically, it is designed to be an operating system compatible with Windows applications and controllers, without using any patented Microsoft code. Unlike Linux, which is based on a UNIX base, Reimplace reacts reimplaces the Windows NT architecture from scratch.
It is currently aimed at compatibility with Windows Server 2003, yes 2003although it can run software such as LibreOffice, Firefox and some older versions of Adobe Photoshop. Reacts integrates parts of the wine project and even admits the start of 64 -bit Linux systems through its freeloader utility.
Four years in manufacturing
Originally released as Freewin95 in the late 1990s, it became reacts with the aim of becoming a true Windows alternative.
Today, it seems that Windows 2000 in appearance and functionality, although compatibility is very unpredictable: some classical games and applications work perfectly well, while others are blocked or simply cannot be launched.
The last launch named, version 0.4.14, came out in December 2021, and since then the development has continued Apace, with new constructions automatically produced every time a change is committed, although these launches are not tested in the same way as the stable ones.
Now, four years after the last stable update appeared, reacts 0.4.15 has arrived and can download it as a starter or LIVECD CD here.
The latest version offers plug and play corrections, audio corrections, memory management improvements, registration healing and improvements to system accessories and tools that include the notes, paint, rapps, the entry method editor and the shell.
As you can see in the version number, 0.4.15, reacts is still in Alfa, and will probably remain like this for a long time.
It may never get to Beta, much less be finished, but that does not mean that it is not worth it.
He will not want to use it as his daily driver, but leave him to turn him around in Virtualbox and marvel at what the team has managed to create here.
Reacts, although it is impressive for what it is, for many it will continue to be little more than a retro curiosity, but the team is planning some important additions in the next great launch, which will lucky it will not take another four years to arrive.
The planned future characteristics include UEFI support, a new graphic installer, a new NTFS file system controller, symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP), energy administration and compatibility of broader applications.
