An ongoing heat wave in Punjab has forced the provincial government to reduce school hours and announce vacations earlier summer from May 28.

The school schedules until the beginning of the holidays will be from 7:30 am to 11:30 am

According to a notification, the Punjab School Education Department announced Tuesday that educational institutions would be closed for summer holidays from May 28 instead of June 1 as announced above.

The schools throughout the province will open again after the holidays on August 15.

The Department of Higher Education of Punjab also announced that summer holidays in schools and universities would begin on May 28.

A spokesman for the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan said that the prevailing heat wave would probably continue during the current week. The maximum temperature in LaHore on Tuesday was recorded as 42 degrees Celsius.

The spokesman said that high pressure is likely to persist in the upper atmosphere during the current week. Under the influence of this meteorological condition, the temperatures of the day would probably remain from four to 6 ° C above normal in southern Punjab until May 24.

It is likely that the temperatures of the day in central and upper punjab remain up to 7 ° C above normal during the period. Storms of dust and winding winds are expected in isolated places in simple areas due to excessive heat during the period.

Due to the heat wave, residents have been advised, especially children, women and older people who take precautionary measures, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the day and remain hydrated.

Farmers were advised to administer their crop activities while maintaining climatic conditions and also care for their cattle.

The Provincial Authority for Disaster Management (PDMA) also issued an alert about the increase in temperature and heat waves.

The Punjab Help Commissioner, Nabeel, Javed, issued instructions to the commissioners and commissioners attached throughout the province to remain alert. He said that the departments in question, including district administrations, should be on alert in view of the heat wave.

The alert has also been issued to the departments of School Education, Health, Transportation, Local Government and Rescue 1122, sharing concerns about the increase in temperature and heat wave in the main cities and plains of Punjab until May 24.

There is the possibility of an unusual temperature increase in the next few days. Due to the heat wave, there are also possibilities of strong winds and thunderstorms in some places of the plains.

The general director of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, said that an alert has been issued to the district administrations to guarantee the clean water supply in public places.

The first aid provision for heat stroke must be guaranteed in hospitals and mobile health units, he said.
