The metropolis is experiencing extreme heat during Eidul Fitr celebrations, with temperatures that are expected to reach 41 ° C on the third day of festivities, according to the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD).
The PMD has predicted hot and dry conditions in the next 24 hours, with mercury that probably ranges between 39 ° C and 41 ° C. Winds that blow from the north at a speed of 8 km/h have a moisture level of 53%.
The authorities had previously warned that the country would experience temperatures above normal during the EID, with a potential increase from 2 ° C to 4 ° C in several regions.
The MET office has advised residents to remain hydrated, limit outdoor activities and retain water to mitigate the effects of growing heat.
According to the latest PMD notice, Karachi temperatures are expected to range between 39 and 41 ° C on Wednesday, 40-42 ° C on Thursday and 40-42 ° C on Friday.
Meanwhile, temperature readings in the main Pakistani cities today are the following:
-
Islamabad: 7 ° C
-
Lahore: 10 ° C
-
Karachi: 19 ° C
-
Peshawar: 9 ° C
-
Quetta: 1 C
-
Gilgit: 0 ° C
-
Murree: 3 ° C
-
Muzaffrabad: 8 ° C
On the other hand, Lahore residents and other parts of Punjab are experiencing a constant increase in temperatures as the dry climate grabs the province, according to PMD.
The authorities said on Wednesday that rain is not expected in the next two or three days. It is likely that the dry spell continues, increasing heat intensity, particularly on the third day of EID.
In Lahore, it is forecast that temperatures will range between 17 ° C and 33 ° C. The gradual increase has already caused a greater use of cooling appliances both in homes and in offices.
“It is likely that warm and dry conditions persist, without immediate rainfall,” said a Met office spokesman.
