Heavy rain interrupts energy supply

LAHORE:

The sixth spell of the monsoon season brought an hour of torrential rain to Lahore on Saturday, flooding streets and interrupting the city’s energy supply.

The downpour affected more than 120 feeders of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), leaving several neighborhoods without electricity for hours. According to Lesco, the interruptions were caused by the food stumbling and other technical failures.

The affected areas included the municipality, Green Town, Samanabad, Gulan Ravi, Qila Gujjar Singh, Shahdara, Imamia Colony, Shalimar, Baghbanpin, Harbanspura, Garhi Shahu, Mughalpura and Bhati Gate, as well as several parts of the mural city.

Damage complaints to the transformer also increased, which leads to prolonged interruptions in some neighborhoods.

The warm and humid conditions are expected to continue in most of the country on Sunday, with rain, wind and thundershowers probably in the northeast of Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Alta Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and nearby mountainous areas.

In the last 24 hours, the warm and humid climate prevailed in most regions, with isolated rains reported in parts of Punjab.

Lahore’s attached commissioner, Syed Musa Raza, inspected the drainage operations in Chowburji and reviewed Wasa’s response to the Monzón’s rains.

He directed the WASA equipment that accelerates the removal of water from the low areas while guaranteed a minimum interruption for residents.

He instructed all departments to remain on a maximum alert and maintain a close coordination to avoid the accumulation of water, particularly in vulnerable places.

Public notices were also issued, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary trips during heavy rains, stay away from electrical posts and hanging cables, and lead cautiously in the flooded streets.
