LONDON:
Actor Helen Mirren, one of the stars of Thursday’s murder clubA film about a group of retirees who enjoy the cases of unresolved murder, said it is great to see the life experiences of older people held on the screen on Thursday.
Mirren, eighty, plays former Spy Elizabeth Best in the new mystery of Netflix, who along with her other impressive retired friends, played by Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie, meet a real murder to solve.
“We underestimate the elderly. I did it when I was 25 years old,” Mirren said at the premiere of the movie in London. “It is absolutely correct that young people feel that the world is yours and nobody has done what they are doing before, you know, but the reality is, of course, each generation has done everything they are doing.”
Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is based on Richard Osman’s best -selling novel by the same name. “I don’t proceed at all,” Osman said about his writing process. “I literally have an approximate idea of what could happen. I have a small turn somewhere, but I literally write one chapter at a time and see what happens,” he said.
When describing the film, one of the script writers, Katy Brand, said it combines “serious and sincere heat” and moments of nonsense, humor and satire.
“All this kind of gender that we have in this country of the type of criminal drama on Sunday night … where the maintenance of fans continues, but also has pranks,” Osman said.
As for the future, with three more novels in the series already outside and a fifth installment of Osman planned for autumn, he hopes there will be more films. “Certainly if you do well,” he said. “I think the cast spent an incredible moment last summer filming this. So I would like to spend next summer filming another too. Cross fingers.” Osman said.
Netflix nflx.o will begin to transmit Thursday’s murder club on August 28.
