Kaitlin Armstrong’s whereabouts have returned to the spotlight amid the Netflix premiere of The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson.
The documentary focuses on the life and death of Wilson, her rise to become a cycling pioneer and the shocking circumstances of her tragic death.
What really happened to Moriah Wilson?
Wilson, at 25, was considered one of the sport’s brightest talents, rising from professional skiing to a vibrant cyclist with major titles on her shoulders.
But after a brutal tragedy in May 2022, she was shot and killed while staying at a friend’s house in Austin, Texas.
Wilson visited fellow cyclist Colin Strickland and they went swimming.
They later ate and drank together before Strickland dropped Wilson off at her friend’s house, where she was found shot to death an hour later.
What caught investigators’ attention about Strickland’s girlfriend, who turned out to be yoga teacher Armstrong, was because her vehicle was located near Wilson’s home.
Wilson and Strickland dated in 2021 and broke up.
However, this friendship between Strickland and Wilson infuriated Armstrong.
How was Kaitlin Armstrong arrested?
After the brutal murder of Moriah Wilson, Armstrong fled the United States on May 18, 2022, triggering a 43-day manhunt.
On June 29, she was arrested by Costa Rican authorities.
She was eventually found in Costa Rica, where authorities said she had altered her appearance through plastic surgery and used a fake ID to evade capture.
Following her extradition to the United States, Armstrong was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty.
The trial began on November 1, 2023 and after a two and a half week trial, she was found guilty of first degree murder.
Armstrong was sentenced to life in prison for 90 years.
Where is Kaitlin Armstrong now?
As of this writing in 2026, Kaitlin Armstrong is serving her sentence at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit, a prison located in Gatesville, Texas.
He would only be eligible for parole after completing about three decades of his 90-year prison sentence.
It means it would not be considered for release until around 2050.
