Another prominent building in France has been the victim of theft when cutlery worth thousands of dollars was stolen from the Presidential Palace in Paris, months after the Louvre museum heist.

The authorities have captured the culprits, three men who worked at the official residence of the French president and will be tried next year for stealing cutlery and a table worth between 15,000 and 40,000 euros.

The chief butler of the Elysée Palace was the first to report the disappearance. Several of the missing items were discovered on an online auction website, prompting authorities to open an investigation.

The investigation team determined that one of the silver butlers was behind the robbery and his records suggested that additional robberies were being planned.

Around 100 items were recovered from the butler, including a plaque stamped “French Air Force” and “Severes Manufactory” ashtrays that are not available to the general public.

Two other suspects were arrested on Tuesday, December 16, and all objects were returned to the Elysée Palace.

The culprits, accused of stealing movable property listed as national heritage, appeared in court on Thursday, December 18. They face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.

The defendants are now under judicial supervision and the trial is postponed until February 2026.
