The Transfer Station of Tonnes of Solid Waste Establish by The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) In Front of The Press Club Has, Through it Stench and Foul Odour, engulfed Rawalpindi’s Historic Liaquat Bagh, The Press Club, Fine Arts College, Gordon College, Two Big Big Hotels, The Rawalpindi Development Authority, The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), The Sports Complex and the Municipal Corporation, making the miserable life for these centers and for those who pass through Liaquat Bagh. The solid waste collection system throughout the city in this transfer station and then transport it outside the city has created a painful situation.
Before the establishment of the solid waste transfer station, this site was a beautiful playground where dinosaur structures and many other animals had been installed. He had a grass ground, banks, swings for children and a walking track for women. However, during the construction of the Metro Bus project, its land was used for the storage of construction material. After completing the project, the site became a solid waste transfer station by the RWMC.
Now, the garbage brought from the entire city is thrown on the grounds, where it is weighed and then transferred through trucks through Murree Road and GT Road to the Losar landfill. This solid waste transfer station, established during the last 15 years, has submitted to the government institutions mentioned above, the universities, the sports complex and the visitors of the public park, as well as those that pass through Murree Road and Liaquat Road, to a miserable situation. So far no order issued has been implemented regarding the transfer of this solid waste transfer station from the site.
The president of the Citizen Action Committee, Zahid Ahmed Awan, who raises his voice for the protection of citizens’ rights, has now announced that the solid waste transfer station must change from here, otherwise it will be forced to adopt the protest with citizens. He said that Liaquat Bagh bears the name of a martyred prime minister, while a former prime minister was also attacked by terrorists in one of the doors of the same Liaquat Bagh.
Liaquat Bagh has now become a public park. The Gordon College Historical Educational Institution is also closer to Liaquat Bagh. Many government institutions, including the Rawalpindi Press Club and Rescue 15, have had the effect of this solid waste transfer station. Arya Mohallah, Murree Road and Liaquat Bagh have also been seriously affected, but there is no one to take care of the matter.
