President Asif Ali Zardari has conferred the prestigious Nishan-E-Iimtiaz (military) Prize to General Michael E Kurilla, commander of the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), in recognition of his contributions to regional security and the strengthening of bilateral military ties, said Saturday.

According to a statement issued by Public Relations between Services (ISPR), President Zardari presented the honor during a formal investiture ceremony in AIWAN-E-SADR. General Kurilla was recognized for his “exemplary service and fundamental role in the progress of lasting military cooperation” between Pakistan and the United States.

“General Kurilla’s visionary leadership has been fundamental to foster mutual understanding, improve defense collaboration and deepen anti -terrorism cooperation between the armed forces of Pakistan and UScentcom,” reads the statement.

The prize reflects Pakistan’s appreciation for the “unwavering support” of General Kurilla and highlights the growing depth of the military association between the two nations.

During his visit, General Kurilla met with the Pakistani leadership, including President Zardari and the head of the Army personnel, Syed also Munir. The discussions focused on regional security, military commitment to the military and the joint efforts of anti -terrorism, the statement added.

Upon reaching the presidency, General Kurilla received an honor guard from Tri-Services.
