- For the first time, Dark Web Scanning is integrated into a accommodation panel
- Get security recommendations if you find your data
- Hostinger states that more than 50% of customers find data previously disseminated in Dark Web
Many security tools already allow you to know when personal information has been leaked and shared on the dark website, but unless you verify, you will not know if your data has been revealed.
This can be left at risk that your account will be pirate, either through supplantation or simply access your site with your username and password.
Now, a new hostinger tool is looking to increase user safety by offering dark web scan built for the first time, integrating the tool directly into its HPanel service.
Dark web scan
There are other free tools and payments available online to verify if your information has been filtered online, but this is the first tool of this type directly integrated into a accommodation panel.
Hostinger says that their initial tests found that more than half of the customers had data released on the dark website, and received warnings together with suggestions on how to improve security, such as updating passwords and ensuring that two factors are activated.
The tool was developed by Nordstellar, and is available as a separate product or can be activated in the hostinger hpanel from $ 1.49/month.
It works by tracking keywords associated with your business in dark web forums, search engines, markets and communities. It also scan the information related to employee and client data for integral monitoring.
Why is this important?
Dark Web is a decentralized and not regulated part of the Internet. In it, you can find all kinds of illegal content and, usually, it is the first place that stolen information is shared or put on sale.
Computer pirates can exploit vulnerabilities to obtain access to databases and steal large volumes of data maintained in a service. Instead of spending time to use this information to go to people in the data set, computer pirates will sell bulk data to bad actors who in turn will try to use the data illegally for financial gains. This could be in the form of credit card fraud or use the information to impersonate a user to get access to things such as an email address or a web accommodation account.
Common security tools integrated into accommodation panels include web applications (WAF) that improve safety through actions such as inspecting incoming traffic, verifying cross sites scripts, limiting requests to stop brute force attacks and identify bots. Panels also often include password management tools and two factors, file monitoring and malware scanners.
While these tools are often updated to parach the latest safety vulnerabilities of your site, they cannot protect you or your business if your data is pirate and disseminated online of other digital services you use. When monitoring the dark website to obtain information linked to you, other attack vectors are mitigated, since it allows you to update your information or add more strict security while you have greater safety risks.
