Liza Morales, Lamar Odom’s high school sweetheart, finally opened up about the moment she found out her ex married reality star Khloé Kardashian.
“It was shocking. I couldn’t escape it,” Morales said. PEOPLE.
She opened just days before the Netflix launch. Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odoma documentary about the basketball star’s life, fame, struggles and relationships.
Much of the film recalls her initial romance with Morales.
The couple met in high school and Odom proposed when they were only 20 years old and they delayed marriage but had three children together.
But tragedy struck in 2006 when her six-month-old son Jayden died from a sudden, frightening syndrome.
The loss, however, left a strong effect on their relationship and, little by little, they went their separate ways.
The fashion designer added that she was surprised when Odom’s relationship with Khloé Kardashian became public in 2009.
“It was a text message and then a phone call from Lamar: ‘By the way, I’m getting married,’” he recalled.
“So it was all over the place. It wasn’t just that he got married, but how it happened. It was rushed and it hurt.”
Still, Morales shared that she and Odom have now arrived at a better place. “It took me years. I had to work on myself and heal.”
