Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the ‘scheme of the Punjab Punjab Free Panel Panel to provide a very necessary relief for electricity consumers in the province.
Eligible households that consume up to 200 electricity units per month can now request a free solar panel installation. Here is a detailed guide on how it can be registered for this scheme, either through the OA web portal through SMS.
1. Apply through the web portal:
To request the free solar panel scheme, follow these steps:
- Step 1: open your browser and visit the official registration portal in
- Step 2: Click the Registration button to access the registration page.
- Step 3: Complete the registration form with the following details:
- Full name
- Email address
- Mobile phone number
- CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card)
- Password (creates a safe password)
- Confirm Password
- Captcha code (to verify that you are human)
Once you have entered all the information, click Register to continue.
2. Email verification:
- After registering, you will receive a confirmation email.
- Open email and click Verify the email address to authenticate your account.
3. Log in:
- Once your email is verified, you will be redirected to the login page.
- Enter your email and password registered, then click login to access your account.
4. Application page:
- After logging in, the system will ask you to enter your invoice reference number.
- Carefully enter the reference number of your electricity bill and click Verify to continue.
5. Verify the details of the application:
- The system will show details related to the reference number of its invoice. Make sure the information is accurate.
- If there is an error in your reference number, click Reset the application and re -enter the correct one.
6. Send the application:
- Once the details are verified, carefully check the information shown on the screen.
- Mark the box to accept the terms of commitment, then click Send to finish your application.
7. Trace the application status:
- After the presentation, applicants can track the status of their application through the portal. Be attentive to updates on the processing of the installation of your solar panel.
2. Apply through SMS:
Alternatively, you can apply through SMS:
- Step 1: Send an SMS to 8800 with the following format:
- Reference [SPACE] Cicnio
- Example: 1234567890 1234567890123
- Step 2: Wait a confirmation message on your mobile phone with respect to your application.
Eligibility criteria:
The scheme is available for consumers who use up to 200 electricity units per month. The verification will be carried out using the reference number on the monthly consumer electricity invoice, together with the CNIC number.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Solar systems will be installed only after the physical verification of their data.
- Solar systems will be linked to your CNIC to avoid theft and misuse.
- The first phase of the scheme will see the installation of more than 94,000 solar panels, with the process from the end of March and concluding for July.
Previously, the Punjab government decided to transition from the 43 prisons in the province to solar energy, a measure is expected to reduce the costs of electricity and gas up to 60%.
The plan, which aims to address the increase in public services costs, has been presented by the Punjab Department of Interior and is waiting for the final approval of Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz, said Express News.
An initial survey conducted by the National Radio and Telecommunications Corporation (NRTC) has estimated that annual energy costs for the 43 Punjab prisons have reached the amazing RS4.5 billion.
