The world’s best track cyclists will descend on the Peñalolén Velodrome in Santiago, Chile, for the 2025 UCI Track World Championships from Wednesday, October 22 to Sunday, October 26. There will be 22 titles up for grabs across various disciplines for the right to wear the world champion’s famous rainbow stripes over the next year.
It may be the first time the annual championship has not been held in Europe since Hong Kong in 2017, but riders from that continent are expected to feature prominently among the medals after the Netherlands, Great Britain and Denmark led the 2024 medal tally with four golds each.
Team GB have failed to win a medal in the women’s team pursuit just once since the event’s inception in 2008, taking eight gold, six silver and two bronze medals. Katie Archibald, one of track cycling’s most decorated riders, will once again be part of a strong team and the 31-year-old is also expected to take part in the madison and heat races. Also keep an eye out for Emma Finucane, who dominated in 2024, winning the individual sprint and the team sprint (with Sophie Capewell and Katy Marchant).
Matt Richardson, newly arrived in Britain after changing nationality from Australia, will take part in the sprint after breaking the 200m world record a few weeks ago in Türkiye. Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen, who won three golds at the Paris Olympics, will challenge Richardson.
Ally Wollaston took gold in the women’s omnium and heat races in Copenhagen 12 months ago and the 24-year-old New Zealander will be the favorite to retain her titles.
