The young star of Pakistan, Huzaifa Arshad, has assured a gold medal in the category of individual cadet kata in the Karate championship in the south of Asia here in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Arshad won the medal while competing in the U-10 category.

A day before, Alesha Nadeem also won a silver medal for the country in the U21 category below 50 kg.

The athletes of Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bután participated in the championship.

With a final count of a gold, a silver and seven bronze medals, Pakistan finished fifth in the general classification.

India headed the medal table with a dominant exhibition, winning a total of 59 medals, including 23 gold, 24 silver and 12 bronze.

Nepal finished second, with 50 medals (21 gold, nine silver and 20 bronze), followed by the host nation Sri Lanka, who also won 59 medals but finished third due to less gold medals (16 gold, 20 silver, 23 bronze).

Bangladesh secured fourth place, with a total of 24 medals, three gold, seven silver and 14 bronze.
