At this time there are some incredible camera phones from China, including Xiaomi 15 Ultra with its 1 -inch sensor and Leica lenses and the living X200 Ultra with its innovative complementary lens, but Huawei’s last offer could overcome the lot.
Presented on June 11, the pure 80 ultra apparently presents a triangular triple chamber unit, but a second look reveals one of those lenses, in fact, host of twin telephotive that shares the same sensor of 1/1.28 inches.
One of those periscope lenses is a 3.7X zoom, and the other a monster zoom 9.4x. This space savings configuration, which uses a moving prism to change the focal distance, is unusual enough, although we have seen it before at the Sony Xperia 1 III since 2021, but judging by the specifications of Pura 80 Ultra resembles the real treatment.
Switching teleobjective lenses offer a particularly versatile range: Zoom 3.7X is an ideal of 83 mm F/2.4 primary for portraits, while the 9.4x zoom is an equivalent of 212 mm F/3.6, in addition to sharing that sensor of 1/1.28 inches, which is larger than most of the others used for telephotive lenses and the quality is not sacrificed.
My only reservation is that there is a pixel binning or sensor coverage with the 9.4x zoom, which triggers fixed images of 12.5mp, unlike the 50MP images of zoom 3.7x. In any case, the quality of the photos I have seen with both teleobjective lenses looks impressive.
Could this be the best phone with camera in the world?
As a photographer, teleobjective lenses are really useful, but I am so impressed with the main camera. It is a 23 mm lens with variable opening F/1.6-4, which uses a larger 1-inch sensor for fixed 50mp images.
In addition, Huawei says that the main camera is able to capture 16 dynamic rank stops, which would be a record for any smartphone.
The broader the dynamic range that a camera can capture, more perceptible details will get in the most outstanding aspects and shadows, which should make more natural images of natural appearance.
Complete the camera matrix there is an ultra lens of 13 mm with fixed 40MP images, although Huawei does not list the sensor size for this camera. It is a safe bet that will not coincide with the quality of the main camera.
Unlike Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which I have been using for months and it is a genuine alternative for my premium compact camera, I still don’t have my hands in the pure huawei 80 ultra, so I can’t be sure if it is one of the best camera phones.
Its specifications are certainly striking, as are the optional photography editing kit (see above). The complementary handles that mimic the camera experience are becoming one thing: the aforementioned intelligent phones of Xiaomi and Vivo have their own versions. However, Tilta looks gloriously exaggerated.
It includes a large grip, case, additional energy supply, continuous light and additional wood handle. There are also more in the case of what it seems: not only provides additional power, but can keep the phone fresh and allows Focus monitoring functionality, which is a blessing for filmmakers. The kit also allows the use of additional lens filters, such as NDS, in addition to that it comes with a portable carbon fiber tripod.
Like the previous Huawei phone releases, the Pura 80 Ultra is currently only available in China, and costs CNY 9,999 (approximately $ 1,400 / £ 1,050 / au $ 2,150). It is promoted for a broader launch, although not in the United States.
