Samsung just unveiled a new Micro RGB TV at CES 2026, which it claims is the world’s first 130-inch TV to use this next-generation technology; the previous largest was the 116-inch Hisense 116UX TV.
Unfortunately, at the moment it’s just a masterpiece rather than something that’s officially being released for sale, although don’t forget that last year I saw these prototypes of Micro RGB technology for the first time, and Samsung launched its first Micro RGB TV before the end of 2025. So who knows, maybe it will still go on sale.
One of the crucial points here is the attractive stand it is built into. Samsung calls it ‘Timeless Frame’ – it takes elements of the Frame design language used in The Frame TVs and incorporates elements of the Samsung Timeless Gallery TV design from over a decade ago, as used in the Samsung S9 Ultra TV.
A 130-inch TV obviously dominates any space and has a few simple questions: “How do I mount it?” Do I need to find a 10 foot wide TV unit? questions. But that’s all taken care of here – it’s a huge, nice, simple unit. Well, it would probably take a team of five to build it safely, but otherwise it’s nice and easy.
It uses the same technology as Samsung’s other range of Micro RGB TVs, including Micro RGB Color Booster Pro and Micro RGB HDR Pro technology that takes full advantage of the expanded color gamut of RGB TV technology; As with the RU95H range of TVs that Samsung is launching, it promises to offer 100% of the BT.2020 color gamut.
(For more information on why RGB technology is special and what’s coming to TVs in 2026, check out my article about it here. The short version is that LED backlighting swaps a single LED color for a full-color red/green/blue system, meaning the pixels don’t need to do as much work converting colors, so there’s a much richer color palette that’s also more energy efficient.)
It also includes Samsung’s Glare Free matte screen coating to prevent mirror-like reflections. I can see the logic here: a huge screen is more likely to reflect things just because there are a lot of them, so eliminating reflections is important if you think of this as a lifestyle TV to use in any given room.
However, if Samsung really did this, it looks like it will find its strongest appeal in home theaters, or at least among home theater fans who make plans to control their lighting, so perhaps this is an unnecessary element. But hey, it’s a big eye-catching showcase and that’s the technology Samsung uses in its flagships, so it makes sense that it’s here.
And it looks a real stunner in person: projector-sized images with absolutely mind-blowing color intensity, ultra-deep blacks thanks to excellent dimming control, and stunning brightness that makes real-world images appear hyper-realistic.
It’s with the more vivid colors that the benefits of RGB backlight technology really shine on the screen, with greens and reds especially looking sweeter and more lifelike than you actually see, and with a much higher overall brightness level than OLED TVs can offer.
I couldn’t hear the TV’s sound system, but it has 14 (!) bass units built into the back, so Samsung isn’t messing around.
Samsung didn’t mention whether it uses the Wireless One Connect box the company offers for The Frame Pro and the new Samsung S95H flagship OLED TV coming in 2026, and that’s probably because it’s a prototype, and those practical questions don’t really matter. But I have to assume that if Samsung released it, I would use it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t the only 130-inch RGB TV I see at CES this year, but Samsung definitely earned the honor of being the first and made a big impression on me as a result.
