There is a new player who enters the drone game, and could not be more excited. This week’s announcement (or should it be “prior to the announcement”?) From Antigravity mocking his next 360 drones means that the leader of the DJI market is about to obtain an important rival.
The Antigravity drone, developed by Insta360 and some un specified third parties, is not a direct competitor for the DJI range; Instead, he is taking things in a different direction. By offering a 360 degree capture of 8k of everything that is around it, as a flying version of the excellent camera Insta360 x5, this is the first drone to offer immersive capture of the box.

The details are scarce at this time, but the antigravity press release promises to “replace the inherent technical complexity both on the flight by drones and in the 360 degree videography with expressive experiences and stories that are easy to dominate but exceptionally powerful.”
The ease of use will clearly be an important marketing point of this first anti -rave drone, with the launch to mention the intuitive and friendly operation for the family aimed at people who do not have time to learn “complex flight controls and creation of aerial content.” And that focus on simplicity and ease of use is very exciting for me.

Do not be misunderstood: I love the power and advanced capabilities of DJI’s premium drones such as the Mavic 4 Pro, and learning the best way to use them to create impressive aerial photographs and videos. As someone who has been reviewing drones since the original Phantoms DJIs were launched more than a decade ago, I have had a lot of time to dominate Quadcopter’s flight. And, let’s be honest, it is not that DJI drones were particularly difficult to fly, thanks to their large amount of safety features, wind resistance and automated flight modes.
But the idea of an ultra drone and low complexity designed exclusively for 360 videos is also convincing, even if it is, for now, everyone only talks about marketing with few specific details. Antigravity is making some bold statements, and he has to do it, if he wants to attract attention in a market absolutely dominated by DJI.
However, I can already detect two key areas in which the anti -rave drone maintains simple things. The first is its weight, which we know will have less than 250 g. That means that it is free of many of the restrictions and rules that govern drones. In the US, drones under 250 g are exempt from the FAA registration for recreational use, while in the United Kingdom they do not require a steering wheel identification, they can fly closer to 50 Ma people not involved and can fly in residential, recreational, commercial and industrial sites. Less paperwork and more scope to fly are always welcome.
You may be thinking: “But Dji also takes sub-250g drones,” and you would be right. The DJI Flip, DJI NEO and the DONS MINI DONES range fall into the ultralight weight category, so this is not an area where antigravity can differentiate. Where it can, however, it is with 360 video.
Because the design of the Antigravity drone camera captures everything around him, all the time, the user does not need to point out the camera on a particularly subject to fly. The user only flies, allows the 360 camera to do his own and then, later, he can rethink the video to make sure he points in the right address. You will never miss a shot. This is not something that we have seen integrated in a drone before, and really distinguishes the anti -freeness of its competitors.
If I can forget the restrictions and forget about the camera control, then all that I should worry is to put the anti -rave drone in the right places. That is a great victory in my book, and I can’t wait to take this new drone for a trial flight.
