- IBM FlashSystem C200 aims to replace HDD with high capacity flash storage
- It offers a gross capacity of 1.1pb, 2.3pb effective, with 200,000 IOPS performance
- This flash option is optimized for files, backups and sequential work loads
Pure Storage has been predicting the end of spinning discs for some time, and now IBM is looking to accelerate this change with the launch of the flashSystem System C200, a high -capacity flash -based storage system designed to replace traditional HDDs in companies while offering high density, resistance and lower operating costs.
IBM positions the C200 as a lower -cost flash alternative (“Use it as TLC, pay as QLC”, boast IBM) for file storage, backup repositories and workloads that can tolerate greater latency.
The system is integrated with IBM storage virtualization, which allows you to join a flashSystem grid for non -disruptive migrations.
The writing is on the wall
Blocks & Files says: “The C200 uses the patented flashcore modules of IBM (FCMS) with a gen 4 version that provides an unprovided capacity of 46 TB using a Pseudo-SLC border for the NAND QLC. It has 32 XEON cores and a 256 GB cache that provides a latency of 1-2 ms, up to 200,000 IOP and 23 GBPS of performance. There is a fixed configuration of 24 slots with unprovided capacity of 1.1pb in a 2RU chassis. Because the system always has hardware -assisted compression, IBM says it is 2.3pb of effective capacity. “
Together with the FlashSystem grid scale and a complete set of business software functions, the C200 presents eight 10gbe ports on board and optional configurations of the 16x 32GB FC/NVME-FC or 8x 25/10GBE NVME-TCP ports. IBM says it offers 10 times better than traditional HDD or hybrid solutions, which makes it optimized for sequential work loads.
“The writing is really on the wall for the last of the rotating oxide …” Ibm Barry Whyte’s blogger writes. “In the next few years, we will see the price of flash to get closer and more, and eventually we will even reduce lower than NL-SAS. With 300, 500 and even 1PB flash units that make fun in the industry, it is almost impossible for even more advanced magnetic dishes technologies to remain up to date.”
FlashSystem C200 has an end user price of $ 381,000, which Blocks and files He calls “respectable”, and will generally be available worldwide on March 21.
