If you still own an RTX 3000 series GPU, you might be in luck: Nvidia could bring Frame Generation to its aging hardware

  • Nvidia’s Bryan Catanzaro Suggests Older RTX 3000 GPUs Could Get Frame Generation
  • The new Frame Generation model does not need an Optical Flow accelerator
  • Tensor Cores could be the deciding factor for the RTX 3000 series to receive Frame Generation

With the launch of Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series on the horizon, it’s easy to be tempted to buy the latest and (hopefully) the best, but Frame Generation could change that – it’s not just the series’ GPUs that are getting better. RTX 4000 and the latest Blackwell GPUs from Team Green, such as the RTX 5090 (multi-frame generation), but potentially also the RTX 3000 GPUs.

Hints that older Nvidia GPUs could finally get Frame Generation, a smart feature that uses AI to generate extra frames to increase overall frame rate, come from Digital Foundry’s interview (which you can watch below) with VP of Applied Deep Learning Research at Nvidia, Bryan Catanzaro. As reported by Wccftech, Catanzaro mentioned that Nvidia will look for ways to make the most of older hardware. We know that the current Frame Generation model will receive improvements later this month once the RTX 5080 and 5090 are released, which will use less VRAM and provide better performance thanks to Tensor Cores.
