ISLAMABAD:

The capital’s high court on Tuesday removed the office’s objections to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s plea to be immediately shifted to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital for eye treatment and issued notices to the respondents.

The court will hear the statement on March 10.

A division bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussin Soomro, heard the miscellaneous criminal application filed by Imran’s lawyer Latif Khosa as part of the main appeals by the PTI founder and his wife against their conviction in the Toshakhana, deposit of gifts case.

During the proceedings, the court asked why it should not also hear the main appeal.

Latif Khosa said that the health of the PTI founder is also a problem, so the request for transfer to a hospital must also be processed urgently. He asked the court to accept the plea from tomorrow and also issue an order allowing him to meet the PTI founder.

Imran’s vision ‘improved’

PIMS said on Tuesday that Imran has shown significant improvement in his vision after his second dose of anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.

“The results are encouraging. His vision has improved markedly and is currently at a substantially good level,” reads a statement issued by PIMS.

A statement issued by PIMS on Tuesday further said that Imran’s examination was conducted in Adiala Jail by Dr Nadeem Qureshi, head of Vitreoretinal Department at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi, and Professor Dr Arif Khan, head of Ophthalmology Department at PIMS.

The PTI immediately rejected the statement, arguing that “any medical examination conducted without the presence of your personal doctors and immediate family members lacks transparency and credibility.”

Pre-arrest bail

A district and sessions court in Islamabad granted pre-arrest bail to the PTI founder in six cases and his wife Bushra Bibi in one case.
