Islamabad:
The Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) has sought a government response about the suggestion of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer to deliver Dr. Shakeel Afridi to the United States in exchange for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
IHC Judge Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard a request that sought the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui of the US prison. During the hearing, Clive Smith, lawyer from Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, presented a new statement in the court.
He suggested that Dr. Aafia be exchanged with Dr. Shakeel Aphridi.
The court requested the government’s response on suggestion until February 21.
The IHC judge commented that the letter written by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the former president of the United States, Joe Biden, remained unanswered. He asked what initiative was taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Court that the Ministry for the Additional Interior Secretary held a meeting with an interim envoy of the United States. The court ordered the government to answer each and every one of the issues of the declaration and postpon the hearing until February 21.
