Illinois will soon eliminate his lawsuit against Coinbase, joining three other states of the United States that have recently withdrawn from the litigation against the exchange.
A spokesman for the Secretary of State of Illinois, Alexi Giannoulias, told Coindesk on Thursday that the office “intends to leave coinbase demand.” The spokesman did not respond when asked when the case can be eliminated.
Illinois was one of the 10 US states that presented charges against Coinbase in 2023 for allegedly violating state laws through its reference program. The United States Stock Exchange and Securities Commission (SEC) also charged Coinbase to violate federal securities laws for its bet, but withdrew that demand in February. Since the withdrawal of the SEC, the regulators of state values in Kentucky, Vermont and the South Carolina have also abandoned their own cases against the exchange.
The remaining states with demands related to the rethink against Coinbase include Alabama, California, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington and Wisconsin. California, Maryland and Wisconsin spokesmen refused to comment on pending litigation.
A representative of the New Jersey Securities Office told COINDESK that the “Coinbase matter remains open”, and Bill Beatty, Securities Administrator of the Washington Financial Institutions Department, said that the “case with Coinbase is still currently in progress at this time.”
The Alabama Securities Commission did not return the request for Comments from Coindesk.
