- We Are Rewind has released a Duran Duran-themed Walkman
- Portable Cassette Player Pays Tribute to Pop Trash Album’s 25th ‘Duranniversary’
- Priced at $199 / £149 (approximately AU$299) – and I’ll dance in fire for it
I understand. I’m the perfect demographic – call it The reflection or my analog-loving nature, but i will Dance towards the fire to get my hands on this cassette player.
As a committed Durandy (yes, that’s the term I prefer; ‘Durannie’ sounds much older) I also love a Walkman on cassette; just check out my love letters to the lovely FiiO option and even We Are Rewind’s Elvis-themed Walkman from earlier in the year.
And this one will definitely have me amazing elvis once again, because the 25th Duranniversary of trash popan album that was always in heavy rotation on my five-disc CD player (why yes, right next to my lava lamp…) and you’ll even receive a reissue of the album on cassette with your purchase, plus a stylus (of course, you’ll receive a stylus).
I can’t wait to hear Simon Le Bon’s incredible range and Roger Taylor’s brash drum beats on this Walkman. I feel like it’s positively shouting ‘Why don’t you use me?’
We Are Rewind doesn’t say what kind of shiny jewels this player has somehow embedded in them (probably not diamonds, this is trash pop) but in the same way that wild boys always shine, so will this player…
Above all, don’t say a prayer for me now, save it until the morning after I’ve managed to get my hands on this Walkman, okay? Of all the Walkmans in all the gin bars Planet EarthThis is the one I want.
The surrender of the August moon to a rising dust cloud?
No, it’s just a very Brilliant Walkman!
Do you want to know something about it? Because to me, the aesthetic is more than enough to make my poor Generation X heart crave. every time I imagine River Dancing in the sand, I will now imagine her holding this Walkman, with the cool sea breeze catching the wires of her headphones, just like that river winding through a dusty land.
But for anyone analyzing this thought missive Is there anything I should know?We Are Rewind (a company that specializes in this sort of thing; just look at the company’s modern boombox for starters) tells me that the Duran Duran Walkman is equipped with “a unique headphone amplifier designed with cassette playback in mind.”
You also get Bluetooth connectivity to connect to the best Bluetooth speakers or headphones you can find, and a rechargeable battery (forget those nasty AAs) that should last 12 hours before needing a power drain.
I won’t cry for yesterday, but I love digging out my old cassette collection – a reminder of the ordinary world Sometimes I feel like I’ve lost.
How much does it cost? Of course: it’s available from today, priced at $199 / £149 (around AU$299) and at that price, wild kids will never miss it…
