IMF review mission to arrive tomorrow

Islamabad:

A mission of nine members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in Pakistan tomorrow (Monday) for an economic review before the next section of $ 1 billion of a rescue package of $ 7 billion approved in August 2023.

According to sources from the Ministry of Finance, the IMF delegation, directed by Nathan Porter, will remain in Pakistan for two weeks until March 15. During this period, he will first maintain technical discussions, followed by negotiations at the policy level with Pakistani authorities.

The delegation will also present recommendations for the budget of the next fiscal year. Any relief for the salaried class will be subject to the IMF approval.

The IMF mission will participate in negotiations with officials of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Planning and the State Bank of Pakistan.

The discussions will also be carried out with the Federal Income Board (FBR), the Petroleum and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the National Regulatory Authority of Electric Energy (NEPRA) and other relevant institutions and ministries.
